Find quality furniture.

Are you looking for quality furniture? Remember, no such a thing like good and cheap furniture at the same time.

You will always get what you pay for, but you have to understand some basics how to find best furniture for you.

Before you buy furniture, test to find out if it is well constructed.

Buying wood furniture.

• You can buy quality furniture finished with a wood veneer. Veneered furniture is just as good as solid wood construction.

• Just lift up one end of the table or chair and try to shake it. Good quality wood furniture has weight and solidity, and won't wobble.

• The legs of dining chairs should be joined with corner blocks that are glued and screwed.

• Drawers must glide smooth and not bind. Drawer corners should have dovetailed joints.

• Look for back panels, they should be wood, not cardboard and must be recessed from the back, and not applied to the perimeter of the frame.

• Hinges must be strong enough to support the weight of the doors.

Buying upholstered furniture.

• First, test the seat for comfort, then bounce around to listen for squeaks or the sound of springs rubbing against the frame.

• You can pick up one end of the sofa or chair and shake it. Best upholstered furniture is solid and heavy.

• Good quality upholstered furniture has the frame that is made from kiln-dried hardwood. You can ask salesman how frame is made.

• Check if the frame follows the contours of the sofa or chair and curves must not just be filled out with padding or foam.

• Check if the legs are a continuation of the frame.

• Ask about density of the foam in a seat cushion. The higher the density of the foam, the heavier it is and last longer.

• When fabric has a pattern, check if it continues across seams and welts.

Veneered vs solid wood furniture.

Solid wood furniture or veneered furniture doesn’t tell you anything about the quality or value of the furniture.
