Veneered vs solid wood furniture.

Solid wood furniture or veneered furniture doesn’t tell you anything about the quality or value of the furniture.

Definition of solid wood is furniture that is constructed using nothing but solid boards or solid boars that have been bonded together. No veneering and no printing are used.

All wood means that the furniture is made of wood products and that there are no non wood products used in the construction.

Wood used in the manufacture of furniture.

Hardwood is comes from trees that lose leaves seasonally, like cherry, ash, oak, teak, maple, walnut and etc. Hardwood is used in making of more expensive furniture and more durable then softwood.

Softwood is come from trees that keep leaves all year around, like pine, cedar, redwood, cypress and etc. Softwood is less expensive and is less durable the hardwood.

Veneering is technique that was developed over 3000 years ago. Many of the most costly fine antique furniture pieces are veneered.

Veneer is the only way the magnificent beauty of a log can be revealed.

Solid wood furniture technique is used because of a lack of the tools and skills to produce veneered furniture.

Do not worry on the type of wood being used in the furniture. More important is how the wood was prepared for manufacturing and whether or not it was a quality piece of wood to begin with.

Keep in mind that manufacturers can “print” any wood grain on any surface. If you see the retail price that is too good to be true, just ask what you are buying.

Furniture manufacturers must state what woods were used in a furniture piece, but is no obligation for furniture stores to tell you anything that you don’t ask about.

Don’t be afraid to ask and check for quality of furniture.
